This conference was organized by Select Biosciences India Private Limited and this work was performed in collaboration with Tata Institute of fundamental research (TIFR), Mumbai, India.

Priyanka Prabhu won Third Prize at the “Eighth International Annual Conference on "Translational Clinical Pharmacology Research in Drug Development" organised by South Asian Chapter of American College of Clinical Pharmacology held at Nehru Auditorium, Worli, Mumbai, India on 24-25 April, 2015 for Oral Presentation in "Preclinical Category" for work on " Nanostructured Lipid Carriers (NLC) of Artemether-Lumefantrine combination for oral malaria therapy.

This work was performed in collaboration with Tata Institute of fundamental research (TIFR), Mumbai, India.

Prof. Vandana B. Patravale, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology, Institute of Chemical Technology is declared as the recipient of the Smt. Chandaben Mohanbhai Patel Industrial Research Award for Women Scientists - 2013 by Vividhlaxi Audyogik Samshodhan Vikas Kendra (VASVIK) Apex Committee. This is a prestigious national award given to women scientists in recognition to their extraordinary industrial research and it is in execution since year 1981. This award is bestowed upon Prof. Patravale for her outstanding research, especially in area of coronary stents and intra uterine devices.

VASVIK is a non-profit, non-government organisation established in 1974 and run by the owners of the Patel Extrusion Group. With a vision to promote industrial research, science and technology in India, the organization presents nine annual VASVIK Industrial Research Awards in various categories to an individual or group of individuals in honour of their exceptional research achievements. 

This year, the award ceremony is scheduled in December 2014, where Prof. Vandana B. Pataravle will be felicitated by Honourable Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi.









Best Oral Presentation Award, First International Conference on Industrial Pharmacy, Kuantan, Malaysia

Preshita Desai won the Best Oral Presentation Award at the "First International Conference on Industrial Pharmacy"held at Kuantan, Malaysia on 16-17th August 2014 for the paper entitled, "Green Approach Towards Bioenhanced Curcumin: Process Analytical Technology (PAT) Assisted Scale Up Studies of Curcumin Solid Solution Using Hot Melt Extrusion".
This work of PAT Assisted scale up studies on Hot Melt Extruder was performed in collaboration with Prof. Anant Paradkar at University of Bradford, UK under the UKIERI 
(UK-India Education and Research Initiative) collaborative project entitled, “Process analytics enabled green technologies for processing of poorly soluble drugs” funded by British Council, India and the initial formulation development and optimization studies were done using hot melt extruder in Prof. Vinita Deshapande's lab, Department of Physics, Institute of Chemical Technology.

Grand Challenges Explorations Round 11, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation awards $100,000 to Prof. Patravale and her team to develop the first green vaccine for brucellosis: Congratulations, Swati and Priyanka!

VBP Research Group receives a prestigious grant to develop the first green nanovaccine for nasal immunization against brucellosis from the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation. Prof. Vandana Patravale, ICT, Matunga won $100,000 for developing the cost-effective vaccine technology supported by the Gates Foundation from over 2700 applications. The sub-unit nanovaccine aims to confer long term protective immunity to humans and livestock population. Team members, Swati Vyas and Priyanka Prabhu, doctoral students in Prof. Patravale’s lab at ICT, conceptualized the initiative with Prof. Patravale instigated by an ongoing research project concerning diagnostics for brucellosis. Prof. Patravale’s team proposes to develop a sub-unit vaccine fabricated using green technology for nasal immunization in both animals and humans as a one health approach to combat brucellosis. Prof. Sharmila B. Majee, Dept. of Microbiology, Bombay Veterinary College, Parel would be actively collaborating with the team for developing the nanovaccine. Congratulations!

The Institute of Life Sciences ( Hyderabad , India ) and MSD Pharmaceuticals ( India ) Pvt Ltd., the Indian affiliate of Merck and Co., Inc. (Whitehouse Station, NJ, USA) recently co-hosted a symposium titled: Drug Delivery India 2012 – Innovations in Pharmaceutical and Manufacturing Sciences in Hyderabad on February 24th and 25th 2012.  The symposium featured leading Indian scientists from academia, industry, government and the biotechnology sector, International scientists, including scientists from Merck and Co., Inc.

Poster Presentations at the recent Controlled Release Society (CRS) 2012 conference were conducted to provide idealistic, thoughtful and intense discussions and to enlighten bright new innovations in the field of Pharmaceutical products.

INDO-US JOINT SYMPOSIUM 2011

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology at the Institute of Chemical Technology recently conducted a joint symposium featuring eminent scientists from across the United States and India. This symposium was based on the theme Nanomedicine and evidenced excellent interaction amongst academia and industry from both the countries, promoting thoughtful discussions on latest research in nanotherapy.

Poster sessions were arranged where many students from different parts of India came forth to present their research work in nanosized formulation development.
